Handover — public baseline extended with agentic-network reference case; Pizza stewardship gate remains #32

Description

@GerhardBalz-Admin

Purpose

Provide the durable public handover for the Semantic Knowledge Engineering initiative after the cross-example evidence cycle, standards-first MOD adoption, public reference-example publication, W3ID activation for SMO/ESKA, the 14 August 2026 public current-state/discovery cleanup, the 16 August 2026 addition of the Semantic Agentic Network Operations industrial architecture reference case, and the 24 August 2026 adoption and downstream reconciliation of the initiative-level semantic-continuity principle.

Repository-local semantics and implementation remain owned by their respective repositories.

Verified initiative state

Public initiative/reference repositories

The following repositories are public:

  • GerhardBalz/semantic-knowledge-engineering
  • GerhardBalz/semantic-modeling-ontology
  • GerhardBalz/executable-semantic-knowledge-architecture
  • GerhardBalz/pizza-ontology
  • GerhardBalz/semantic-modeling-pizza
  • GerhardBalz/semantic-modeling-wine-food
  • GerhardBalz/semantic-agentic-network-operations

GerhardBalz/w3id.org remains supporting publication infrastructure rather than a semantic initiative repository.

Completed semantic / publication baseline

Completed outcomes include:

  • Pizza ↔ Wine/Food cross-domain evidence review;
  • governed SMO v0.1 with deliberately narrow smo:SemanticModel and smo:ImplementationProjection vocabulary;
  • standards-first reuse of MOD mod:competencyQuestion rather than new SMO vocabulary;
  • ESKA core 0.2.0 alignment with SMO v0.1;
  • active permanent and immutable W3ID publication for SMO and ESKA;
  • public Semantic Modeling Pizza and Wine/Food reference examples;
  • current-state README/discovery cleanup across the original six public repositories;
  • normalized contribution guidance for both semantic-modeling reference examples;
  • the optional informal “42” semantic-context illustration;
  • public Semantic Agentic Network Operations reference case bootstrapped and reviewed via GerhardBalz/semantic-agentic-network-operations#1;
  • SKE PR Adopt explicit semantic-continuity principle and refresh initiative state #40 merged on 24 August 2026, adopting “Semantics must remain explicit through execution.” as the primary initiative-level principle while retaining “Execution must not sever semantics.” as explanatory failure-mode shorthand;
  • ESKA PR #95 merged on 24 August 2026, reconciling the current ESKA README, semantic-continuity guide, related-work positioning, and active Pizza reference documentation;
  • SKE Refine semantic-continuity principle: “Semantics must remain explicit through execution” #39 closed completed after live verification of the merged downstream ESKA wording.

The reviewed semantic-continuity principle implies preservation, traceability, explicitness/inspectability, and provenance. It does not require an ImplementationProjection in every execution path: a source-owned semantic artifact may participate directly in execution; when a projection is introduced, the relevant meaning and lineage must remain explicit and traceable.

Current architectural conclusions remain:

  • do not expand SMO for structural symmetry;
  • DCTERMS/PROV remain sufficient for demonstrated source/lineage relationships;
  • Pizza-specific exclusions remain local;
  • operation signatures, runtime context, agent contracts, and execution architecture remain local or ESKA-owned as appropriate;
  • negative cross-domain evidence is evidence against forced vocabulary promotion;
  • an industrial architecture case may test SKE/SMO/ESKA without introducing a new domain ontology;
  • in the agentic-network reference case, MCP is treated primarily as a realization of the governed agent tool plane, not as the whole Agentic Network Operations Platform;
  • the mapping to Soldani et al.'s public Network MCP proposal is an independent interpretation, not a claim that the cited work uses SKE terminology.

Public industrial architecture reference — Semantic Agentic Network Operations

Repository:

GerhardBalz/semantic-agentic-network-operations

Technology-neutral platform concerns:

Agentic Network Operations Platform
├── Agent orchestration and lifecycle
├── Intent translation and transactional execution
├── Agent tool plane
├── Identity, policy and governance
├── Validation, conflict resolution and enforcement
└── Observability and audit

The reference case tests the SKE/SMO/ESKA semantic-continuity hypothesis:

Authoritative semantics
        ↓
Semantic Model
        ↓
Implementation Projection — when used
        ↓
Executable Semantic Knowledge
        ↓
Agent / tool transaction
        ↓
Evidence + provenance

A source-owned semantic artifact may also participate in execution directly. The invariant is continuity of relevant meaning and lineage, not mandatory projection.

It is an independent architecture/reference-evidence repository, not a telecom ontology or standards proposal. No affiliation with or endorsement by cited authors, employers, standards bodies, or organizations is implied.

Any one-to-one expert contact, response status, or meeting follow-up remains private. Publication-safe technical conclusions may be promoted publicly only when they can stand independently and with permission where required.

Active P1 — Pizza Ontology #72 external stewardship/provenance gate

Active issue:

GerhardBalz/pizza-ontology#72 — Establish resolvable Pizza preservation/reference identifiers and eliminate misleading non-resolving links.

The proposed namespace remains:

https://w3id.org/pizza-ontology/

strictly as a preservation/reference PID, not a replacement Pizza ontology namespace.

External stewardship/provenance feedback must be received and assessed before any perma-id/w3id.org pull request is submitted. Detailed one-to-one outreach and follow-up status are intentionally tracked privately rather than in this public technical handover.

Therefore:

  • do not submit a Pizza W3ID PR yet;
  • do not list an external maintainer without explicit agreement;
  • do not change historical Pizza ontology/version/entity IRIs;
  • do not treat the proposed namespace as active;
  • assess external stewardship/provenance feedback before changing the publication plan.

Parked P2 — Pizza Ontology #4

GerhardBalz/pizza-ontology#4 remains parked.

Do not create a successor Pizza ontology merely for modern tooling, dereferenceability, or publication UX. Activate it only when a concrete semantic-modernization requirement requires changed/new domain semantics or a new actively governed ontology identity.

Current public backlog

SKE
  #32 ACTIVE — durable public handover
  #39  COMPLETE — semantic-continuity wording + ESKA reconciliation

SMO
  no open issues

ESKA
  no open issues — PR #95 merged

Pizza Ontology
  #72  ACTIVE P1 — external stewardship/provenance gate
  #4 PARKED P2 — successor ontology only on concrete semantic trigger

Semantic Modeling Pizza
  no open issues

Semantic Modeling Wine/Food
  no open issues

Semantic Agentic Network Operations
  no open issues — reviewed bootstrap baseline merged

Repository-discovery metadata and relationship/outreach planning may have private execution items, but private relationship state is not part of this public handover.

Immutable / governance boundaries

Do not:

  • modify or retag immutable eska-v0.1.0, eska-v0.2.0, or smo-v0.1.0;
  • expand SMO for structural symmetry;
  • move ESKA execution concepts into SMO without independent semantic-modeling evidence;
  • rewrite historical Pizza 2.0 ontology/version/entity identifiers;
  • claim authority over the historical Pizza namespace;
  • submit Pizza W3ID before stewardship/provenance feedback is received and assessed;
  • create new repositories merely because another reference domain exists;
  • present the Semantic Agentic Network Operations interpretation as if it were terminology or architecture claimed by Soldani et al.;
  • imply endorsement or publish private peer-contact status.

Restart instruction

Use:

Review GerhardBalz/semantic-knowledge-engineering#32 as the current SKE public handover and verify live GitHub state first. The initiative-level principle “Semantics must remain explicit through execution.” is adopted and reconciled through SKE PR #40 and ESKA PR #95; SKE #39 is complete. Start with Pizza Ontology #72 by checking whether the external stewardship/provenance gate has changed; preserve historical Pizza identity and do not submit W3ID before stewardship/provenance feedback. If #72 remains externally blocked, continue with newly opened independent technical backlog items rather than inventing vocabulary or repositories. Keep one-to-one expert/contact status private.

Completion rule

Keep this issue open while it is the active durable public checkpoint.

Before replacing or closing it:

  1. create/update the next durable handover checkpoint;
  2. ensure the SKE roadmap/repository map reflects actual GitHub state;
  3. ensure repository-local issues capture every active implementation/governance gate;
  4. ensure no user-reviewed technical decision or external dependency exists only in chat history;
  5. keep one-to-one outreach/contact status out of the public handover.
