Tutorial 2: UART & Bluetooth

Important

In this tutorial, you will need to flash code to two separate hardware boards. The skeleton provided includes TWO STM32 projects. One for the controller board, and one for the mainboard (the square board with a lot of white headers).

You can download the skeleton using the Tutorial 2 Release here.

Overview

This tutorial covers UART communication and Bluetooth integration with the STM32 mainboard.

  • Classwork: Demonstrate your working Controller + serial monitor output to seniors during homework checking
  • Homework: Demonstrate your working mainboard and Controller to seniors before the deadline.

Deadlines

Deadlines for classwork and homework:

  • S01: next Wednesday 6pm (14 Oct, changed from Monday to Wednesday due to certain complications for the S01 session)
  • S02: next Wednesday 6pm (14 Oct)
  • S03: next Friday 6pm (16 Oct)

Objectives

  • Set up UART on the STM32 and the serial monitor.
  • Send and receive messages between the controller and computer via USB TTL.
  • Configure the Bluetooth module.
  • Send and receive messages between the mainboard and Contoller via Bluetooth.
