Get available runners/components updates from the cli

As the title says, is it possible to get the available runners and components upgrades from the command line utility (bottles-cli)?

Hi,

As far as I can tell, not currently.

bottles-cli can list the components Bottles already knows about locally, for example:

bottles-cli list components

but there doesn't seem to be a CLI command that checks the online repository and returns something like:

soda-11-3 -> soda-11-4
dxvk-x -> dxvk-y
vkd3d-x -> vkd3d-y

That functionality is currently handled mainly through the Bottles GUI.

There was also an earlier feature request asking for exactly this kind of CLI support — listing available runners/components and installing a selected version — so it looks like this is still a limitation of bottles-cli, rather than something you're missing.

If anyone knows of a newer command that exposes the remote component list, I'd be interested to know too.

I made a couple scripts to fetch updates for both arch and python in my pc and i wanted to add a similar one for bottles (since i run the games from the cli).

Glad it helped! That’s a nice setup, especially if you’re managing everything from the CLI. Having one consistent update workflow for Arch, Python, and Bottles should make maintenance a lot cleaner. Thanks for testing it and letting me know it worked!
