Installing packages only available in conda-specific channels with poetry?

I've read several blog posts, but my issue comes here:

How can we install packages that are only available in conda-forge or conda specific channels, with poetry? If we can't, is there a way to overcome this limitation?

poetry cannot install conda packages directly because conda channels are not python package indexes

one workable setup is to create a dedicated conda environment and install the conda only packages there first
activate that environment and let poetry manage the remaining python packages inside it
check poetry env info before installing so poetry is using that environment rather than an older project virtualenv

keep the conda dependencies in environment.yml and the poetry dependencies in pyproject.toml
this gives you two dependency inventories rather than one shared solver or lockfile so their python and library versions still need to be compatible

adding a conda channel as a poetry source will not convert its packages into wheels
