Arduino or ESP-IDF?

Hi,
will this work with framework type set to either arduino or esp-idf? The last section in the Readme got me confused. I dont understand what it is talking about:

Standalone clients
Arduino and ESP-IDF clients are deprecated for now. They were used during the PoC/development phase, but I don’t like the idea of supporting multiple codebases for the same project (not everything can be reused as-is due to different ESP-IDF versions, tooling, etc.). However, if demand for a standalone client is high, I may release one.

I would appreciate any explanations.

The ESPHome component works only with the ESP-IDF framework. That section refers to standalone clients — plain code you can modify, compile, and flash. Those standalone clients were available during the PoC stage.

That's interesting, because I'm actually running it successfully with framework: type: arduino right now. I had to use Arduino because the SPI on my specific board wasn't working well with esp-idf.

It seems to be working flawlessly so far! See my Post about my Project which contains a working config: #14

I guess since Arduino is built ontop of esp-idf its compatible. Might break with future updates tho.

Yeah, makes sense. Maybe this esphome/esphome#10647, which is part of 2025.10.0, also helps.

Just to summarise as the answer:
main framework is esp-idf
arduino currently also works
