Summary

Short version: the builder-SDK Flow skill (v2) becomes the shipped uipath-maestro-flow. The JSON-authoring skill (v1) moves to classic/, and only the Studio Web flavor keeps using it, because Studio Web cannot run the SDK yet. Case and BPMN stay in preview/.

Why now:

  • Nightly coder-eval shows v2 Flow at success-rate parity with v1.
  • UiPath/cli#4575 (merged 2026-09-28, deb7802) ships uip maestro flow compile/check/decompile/merge and uip maestro registry on stable CLI builds. Before it, stable uip did not have the commands v2 uses.

Related PRs and merge order

  1. UiPath/coder_eval_uipath#147 + feat(flow-skill): Add capability discovery to Phase 1 planning #151: Add coder_eval e2e test infrastructure for skills #147 makes the v2 arm dereference the Flow symlink (cp -RL); feat(flow-skill): Add capability discovery to Phase 1 planning #151 keeps the v1 arm on v1 Flow by building it from classic/. Without feat(flow-skill): Add capability discovery to Phase 1 planning #151 both arms load v2 Flow after this merges. Original item: UiPath/coder_eval_uipath#147 (cp -RL in the v2-arm staging). Merge first; without it the ADO v2 arm silently loses Flow once this lands.
  2. feat(flavors): let a flavor pin a skill to its previous generation #3625: the flavor-pin mechanism. Commit 1 here is the same commit; it drops out on rebase once feat(flavors): let a flavor pin a skill to its previous generation #3625 merges.
  3. feat(preview): port the author capability into the preview Flow SDK skill #3642: the author capability (references/author.md), the fourth capability port after operate/diagnose/evaluate. Lands at the preview path; this PR moves it.
  4. fix(uipath-maestro-flow/preview): install the SDK from public npm, no token #3626: the public-npm install note, fixed at today's preview/ path. The last commit here carries the identical line at the promoted path, so either merge order works.
  5. This PR.
  6. UiPath/flow-builder-sdk#859: the Dockerfile extraction is safe anytime; the doc links should follow this PR.

What moved

Before After Who loads it
preview/skills/uipath-maestro-flow (v2) skills/uipath-maestro-flow default npm package, repo-root plugin, every flavor except Studio Web
skills/uipath-maestro-flow (v1) classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow Studio Web flavor only (pinned)
— preview/skills/uipath-maestro-flow → symlink to ../../skills/uipath-maestro-flow flow-v2-preview.yaml arm (still loads all three SDK skills)

Case and BPMN are not promoted. Their preview trees cover authoring only: no operate/diagnose, and for Case no SDD design or troubleshooting. They follow the promotion plan's phases 4–6 separately.

Naming. The retained tree is classic/, not legacy/: it stays shipped and supported for as long as Studio Web needs it. "Classic" is UiPath's term for an older generation that is still supported.

Why Studio Web keeps v1: flavor pins (commit 1)

uip maestro flow compile hands off to the SDK by starting a separate process (uipath-cli/packages/builder-sdk/src/delegate.ts). In Studio Web's browser bundle every process start throws (packages/cli-browser/src/shims/child-process.browser.ts). So a Studio Web agent cannot author .flow.ts. Sparse marker overrides cannot fix that, and the composer had no way to keep the working generation for one host.

New rule in scripts/compose-skill-flavor.mjs:

skill-flavors/studioweb/uipath-maestro-flow/.canonical   # contains: classic

With that pin, the Studio Web flavor composes uipath-maestro-flow from classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow/, and its existing overrides apply to that tree. skills:validate rejects:

  • a pin for a skill skills/ does not ship;
  • a pin whose classic/skills/<skill>/SKILL.md is missing;
  • a classic/skills/<skill> that no flavor pins, so the classic tree must be deleted once Studio Web moves off it.

Studio Web output is byte-identical to main: diff -r of the whole composed build/skills/studioweb tree from origin/main and from this branch is empty.

check-skill-links.mjs now also scans classic/skills/, resolves pinned-skill flavor and classic-tree links against the classic tree, and requires any link from another skill into a pinned skill to resolve in both trees.

Other changes (commits 2–3)

  • SKILL.md install note fixed. It said installing the SDK needs a GitHub Packages token. @uipath/maestro-builder-sdk is also public on npmjs.com (latest = 6.11.6 on both feeds). The skill now runs plain npm install, which respects corporate mirrors, and retries with --@uipath:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org only on E401/E404 when @uipath routes to GitHub Packages.
  • Description (commit 3): restores the routing terms v1 had and the preview text lacked ("Maestro Automate", .flow files, IXP document extraction, inline agents, HITL, chat/voice) plus the uipath-ixp / uipath-agents negatives. 902/1024 chars.
  • Sibling skills follow the Flow generation of each package (review follow-up).
    • uipath-agents, uipath-human-in-the-loop and uipath-platform taught hand-editing .flow JSON, and 11 links pointed into v1-only files.
    • Each affected passage is now a flavor block. The default package points at the v2 file that covers the topic, and 6 gates route builder-SDK work to v2. The Studio Web override restores the v1 text, so Studio Web's composed tree is byte-identical to main.
  • CODEOWNERS: v1 plugin-folder owners mapped to the matching v2 reference file (for instance …/author/plugins/ixp/ → …/references/ixp.md); owners added for classic/.
  • Gates: verb-gate.yml also scans classic/skills; the 220-line router-window test and the inline-agent prompt test read the promoted tree.
  • Docs: CONTRIBUTING (repo layout, flavor pin), manage-skill-flavors skill, tests/README, flow-v2-preview.yaml, preview plugin.json.

Verification

  • npm run skills:validate: OK (default 28 skills / 1778 files; studioweb 28 / 1802 / 288 replacements).

  • npm run skills:check-links: all links resolve (7135 links across skills, skill-flavors, classic/skills).

  • npm run skills:test: 103 pass, 1 fail. The failing test (pack builds complete…, an npm publish --dry-run output assertion) fails the same way on origin/main on the dev box when run with the other suites, and passes alone 3/3. Environment, not this change.

  • npm run skills:pack, check-skills-sh.py, check-skill-status.py (+ --check-readme), validate-skill-descriptions.sh: OK.

  • Verb gate (the CI blocking rule): 0 blocking findings in skills/uipath-maestro-flow and classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow.

  • pytest: tests/tasks/uipath-maestro-flow 1572 passed; uipath-maestro-bpmn 957; uipath-maestro-case 224; uipath-agents + uipath-planner 111; tests/scripts 283.

  • Symlink loading: a Claude Code plugin whose skills/<name> is a relative symlink loads that skill (probe skill returned its secret word). coder-eval's Codex and Antigravity staging follow symlinks (is_dir() + symlink_to by absolute path).

  • Activation (local approximation of the gate). I ran all 61 tests/tasks/activation/uipath-maestro-flow.jsonl prompts through claude -p (claude-opus-5-5, 1 turn, only this repo's plugin loaded, user settings off).

    • main: 43/61.
    • This PR with the preview description as-is: 39/61. Both "Maestro Automate" prompts missed, because that product name had dropped out of the description.
    • This PR after commit 3 restores the v1 routing terms: 44/61. Every per-prompt difference from main is a gain.
    • The absolute numbers are lower than the CI gate's 95% baseline because this harness has no system prompt. Read them only relative to each other.
  • PR smoke gate (v2 Flow in the default catalog): passed, 95.1% (117/123). Two Flow tasks failed, both known v2 gaps:

  • CI activation gate for uipath-maestro-flow: passed.

  • Claude Code Review bot: errored at startup on this PR and on feat(flavors): let a flavor pin a skill to its previous generation #3625 and fix(uipath-maestro-flow/preview): install the SDK from public npm, no token #3626 (is_error: true, model claude-opus-4-6, $0 cost). That's a problem in the review workflow; it produced no review.

Things reviewers should know

  1. Stable release ordering. A stable skills release containing this must not ship before a stable CLI release that contains cli#4575 (deb7802). main → dev channel is fine today, because dev CLI builds already have the commands.
  2. Nightly setup changes. Nightly parity was measured with the SDK pre-installed in the workspace (MAESTRO_FLOW_SDK_SETUP=1). nightly.yaml and smoke.yaml do not set it, so Flow tasks in this repo's CI now take the skill's own npm install path from public npm. That is the customer path, and it adds install time per task.
  3. The v1-vs-v2 Flow comparison continues in the ADO A/B once UiPath/coder_eval_uipath#151 lands: its v1 arm builds Flow from classic/. This repo's own nightly.yaml loads the repo root, so it measures v2 Flow from here on.
  4. Outside consumers of preview/skills/uipath-maestro-flow. Two copy it without following symlinks. Both fixes work before and after this PR, so they can merge first:
    • coder_eval_uipath eval_runner/scripts/flow_v2/ci/ado-run.sh uses cp -R, so the v2 arm would silently lose Flow. Fix: UiPath/coder_eval_uipath#147 (cp -RL). Merge that first.
    • flow-builder-sdk docker/Dockerfile extracts only preview/skills/* at a pinned commit. It fails loudly on the next pin bump. Fix: UiPath/flow-builder-sdk#859 (extract both subtrees, cp -RL; also updates the promotion plan).
  5. Nothing in this repo's CI runs classic/ beyond the validators. v1 Flow is measured only if a Studio Web nightly exercises the composed flavor.
  6. Read-only repo mount. Nightly containers bind-mount the repo read-only, so classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow is readable there, the same way tests/tasks/uipath-maestro-bpmn/README.md documents for v1 BPMN. Prompts must not name v1 Flow reference files.

Follow-ups (not in this PR)

  • UiPath/cli#4629 (filed): builder-SDK authoring in the browser bundle, so Studio Web can drop the pin and classic/ can be deleted.
  • .claude/commands/test-coverage.md still describes v1's references/plugins/ layout.
  • Case and BPMN promotion (plan phases 4–6: close the operate/diagnose gap first).

@astridstaicu — please review the flavor pin (commit 1). It is what keeps Studio Web on the working Flow skill.

…each package

Review follow-up on #3624. The default package now ships the builder-SDK
Flow skill, but uipath-human-in-the-loop, uipath-agents and
uipath-platform still taught hand-editing `.flow` JSON, and the 11 link
rewrites pointed at "guidance" v2 does not have (0 hits for
agentInputVariables, variableUpdates, contentTokens in v2). A hand edit
to the compiled `.flow` is lost on the next compile (verified: an edited
node label and an added key were gone after `compile -o`).

Each affected passage is now a flavor block:
- 11 pointer blocks: the canonical text points at the v2 file that
  covers the topic (hitl.md, inline-agent.md, return.md, operate.md,
  connector-params.md#structured-filters-ceql, #schema-dynamic-...,
  event-trigger.md#filter-operators, SKILL.md#builder-frame). The
  Studio Web override restores the original v1 line verbatim.
- CEQL: the platform doc's "never hand-write the CEQL string" now names
  the builder-SDK exception, where v2 says to write the string and the
  SDK derives the tree.
- Generated (non-catalog) activity: v2 has no node for one (rawNode
  refuses uipath.connector.*), so the default text says so and offers
  managed HTTP in connector mode instead of pointing at nothing.
- 6 gates (HITL surface row, apptask, coded action app, inline-in-flow,
  coded quickstart step 7, embedding-in-flows) route builder-SDK work to
  the v2 file; their Studio Web overrides are empty.

The Studio Web build is byte-identical to main again (diff -r of the
whole composed tree is empty). Link check passes, including the new
block-aware rule.

…lag only as a retry

Review follow-up (from #3624): forcing `--@UiPath:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org`
breaks customers behind a corporate mirror with public egress blocked.
Run plain `npm install` first; retry once with the flag only on
E401/E404 when `npm config get @UiPath:registry` names GitHub Packages.
Verified: that setup fails with E401, and the flagged retry installs.

@rockymadden thanks for the review. Here's where each point landed. Everything is pushed; head is 995daaf47.

🟠 Sibling skills contradict the shipped Flow skill: fixed (a6c5ce5)

I confirmed your reasoning: after a hand edit to the compiled .flow (a node label and an extra key), the next compile -o removed both.

The fix uses flavor blocks, so each package gets the guidance for the Flow generation it ships:

  • 11 pointer blocks (inline threads above): the default package points at the v2 file that covers the topic, and Studio Web gets its original v1 line back.
  • 6 gates:
    • the Flow row of the human-in-the-loop surface table;
    • hitl-node-apptask.md and hitl-node-coded-action-app.md;
    • agents inline-in-flow.md, coded quickstart.md step 7, and embedding-in-flows.md.
    • In the default package, each gate routes builder-SDK work to the v2 file (hitl.md, inline-agent.md, agent.md) and says the JSON applies to a JSON-authored .flow. Studio Web gets an empty override.
  • Result: Studio Web's composed tree is byte-identical to main again (diff -r of the whole build is empty), and the default package no longer tells an agent to write node JSON into a compiled .flow.

"Look at all the other skills that hardlink to Flow"

The link checker walks every relative link in skills/, skill-flavors/ and classic/skills/. Exactly 11 pointed into v1-only Flow paths, and those are the 11 above. The other ~100 mentions across 40 files are routing prose ("use uipath-maestro-flow for flows"), which holds for both generations. I then grepped for Flow JSON-authoring markers (flow node add|configure, variableUpdates, agentInputVariables, inputs.detail, "Direct JSON"). That is what surfaced the 6 gate sites.

Losing capabilities

Operate, diagnose and evaluate were ported earlier (#3386, #3421, #3423). Author is now #3642: references/author.md, the SDK-adapted rules, journeys, anti-patterns and completion report. I checked it against the GA author capability with audit-capability-port.mjs, and backed each dropped rule with a compiled probe. It lands before this PR.

Do the smoke tests work with v2 in place of v1?

Yes. The earlier CI run of this PR, with v2 Flow in the default catalog, passed the smoke gate at 95.1% (117/123).

"Ideally no legacy skill; audit the flavor for v2 instead"

I'd prefer that too, but Studio Web can't run v2 at all right now:

  • flow compile/check/decompile start the SDK as a separate process (builder-sdk/src/delegate.ts).
  • The browser bundle makes every process start throw (cli-browser/src/shims/child-process.browser.ts).

No flavor override can fix that, so the pin is the interim measure. The real fix is filed as UiPath/cli#4629. The composer refuses a classic tree that no flavor pins, so the tree has to be deleted when that issue closes. I renamed it from legacy/ to classic/, since it stays shipped and supported until then.

🟡 Studio Web's Flow loses eval coverage

It keeps two measurements:

  1. The coder-eval daily's studio-web agent runs tasks through the real Studio Web host (the @uipath/studioweb-stdio bridge), which is the flavor customers get.
  2. UiPath/coder_eval_uipath#151 keeps the ADO same-ground A/B's v1 arm on the classic Flow tree. Without it, both arms would silently load v2 Flow after this merges.

Not verified: targetCli and stable ordering

  • deb7802 (#4575) is on CLI main only; no release branch or tag has it yet.
  • Skills main and CLI main are both on the 1.204 line (targetCli ^1.204.0), so the 1.204 cuts of both carry the promotion and the stable commands together.
  • The one real risk is cherry-picking this PR into skills release/v1.203. That must not happen.
  • I did not check whether the CLI enforces targetCli at run time. The ordering holds either way, as long as the cherry-pick never happens.

Minors

npm mirrors, BPMN wording, the double read-window check, symlinks on Windows, and the stale README/test naming are all fixed in 995daaf (replies inline).

… token (#3626)

* fix(uipath-maestro-flow/preview): install the SDK from public npm, no token

The install note said `@uipath/maestro-builder-sdk` resolves through
GitHub Packages and needs a `read:packages` token. It is published to
public npmjs.com too (flow-builder-sdk release.yml; `latest` is 6.11.6
on both feeds), so a customer without a GitHub token was told the
install could not work.

Now the command carries `--@UiPath:registry=https://registry.npmjs.org`,
the same flag uipath-coded-apps uses, so an `.npmrc` that routes
`@uipath` to GitHub Packages cannot turn it into a 401. Verified: with
such an `.npmrc` and no token, the command installs 6.11.6.

What changed in this PR

Promotes the builder-SDK Maestro Flow skill to the default catalog while retaining classic JSON authoring for Studio Web through flavor pinning.

Changes:

  • Moves Flow v2 into the default skill tree and retains v1 under classic/.
  • Adds flavor composition, validation, link checking, and Studio Web overrides.
  • Updates dependent skills, documentation, ownership, and tests for generation-aware routing.

Six unresolved issues were identified, including instructions that still direct builder-SDK users to edit generated .flow JSON, incomplete dual-tree anchor enforcement, and incorrect Flow examples.

… Web pins v1

Nightly coder-eval shows the builder-SDK Flow skill (v2) at success-rate
parity with the JSON-authoring skill (v1), and UiPath/cli#4575 (deb7802)
ships `flow compile/check/decompile/merge` and `uip maestro registry` on
stable CLI builds. So v2 becomes the shipped uipath-maestro-flow.

- preview/skills/uipath-maestro-flow -> skills/uipath-maestro-flow (v2,
  with all four capabilities: author #3642, operate, diagnose, evaluate).
- skills/uipath-maestro-flow -> classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow (v1,
  byte-identical), pinned by the Studio Web flavor via
  skill-flavors/studioweb/uipath-maestro-flow/.canonical (#3625). Studio
  Web's browser bundle cannot start the SDK process `flow compile` needs;
  the real fix is UiPath/cli#4629.
- preview/skills/uipath-maestro-flow is a relative symlink to the
  promoted tree, so flow-v2-preview keeps loading all three SDK skills.
  Case and BPMN stay preview-only.
- Description keeps v1's routing terms ("Maestro Automate", `.flow`,
  IXP document extraction, inline agents, HITL, chat/voice) and the
  uipath-ixp / uipath-agents negatives; BPMN routes on `.bpmn` and
  `.bpmn.ts`. 911/1024 chars.
- Sibling skills (human-in-the-loop, agents, platform) follow the Flow
  generation of each package through flavor blocks: the default package
  points at the v2 file that covers the topic (11 pointers, 6 gates), the
  Studio Web override restores the v1 text. The composed Studio Web tree
  is byte-identical to main.
- CODEOWNERS, verb gate (classic/skills), read-window and inline-agent
  prompt tests, CONTRIBUTING (classic/, symlinks), tests/README,
  flow-v2-preview.yaml, preview plugin.json follow the new layout.

… fatal cross-generation anchors

Copilot review follow-ups on #3624:
- uipath-agents inline-in-flow: the ordering note and the Flow Wiring
  body still sent builder-SDK readers to direct `.flow` authoring. Both
  are flavor blocks now; the default says `inlineAgent({...})` is the
  node and `compile` emits it and its edges. Studio Web keeps its text.
- uipath-human-in-the-loop SKILL: a builder-SDK Flow request stops after
  surface detection and goes to uipath-maestro-flow (hitl.md); Steps 2-6
  are for Case, Low-Code Agent, Maestro and JSON-authored `.flow`.
- uipath-platform triggers: builder-SDK flows stop after step 2 and use
  `filters: [{ field, <operator>: value }]`; steps 3-6 are the classic
  structured tree.
- check-skill-links: a dead anchor in the other generation is always
  fatal (cross-generation anchors are new, so they start clean).

Studio Web composed tree still byte-identical to main.

@rockymadden @dmetzgar I rebased onto main after #3625, #3642, #3626 and the preview fixes #3610/#3616–#3620 merged, and the force-push dismissed your approvals. Could you re-approve?

What changed since your approvals:

  1. Rebase only (246e4b600). The move was redone on current main, so the promoted Flow skill now carries the merged preview fixes and references/author.md. feat(flavors): let a flavor pin a skill to its previous generation #3625's pin commits dropped out, since they're already on main. The description keeps the superset wording, which covers fix(uipath-maestro-flow/preview): route IxP model listing in the skill description #3618's IxP clauses.
  2. Copilot's four findings (ab589ca09), replies inline:
    • two more flavor blocks in inline-in-flow.md;
    • a builder-SDK stop right after the HITL SKILL.md surface table;
    • builder-SDK filter shape and a skip of the classic tree steps in triggers.md;
    • cross-generation dead anchors are now fatal.

Checks on this head, run locally:

  • the Studio Web composed tree is byte-identical to main, and classic/ is byte-identical to main's v1 Flow;
  • skills:validate and skills:check-links are clean;
  • pytest passes: Flow 1575, agents 17, scripts 268;
  • 0 blocking verb findings.

Copilot's overview also mentions two findings about "incorrect Flow examples" that were never posted inline; if anyone sees them, point me at them.

🟢 Approved. The rebase is a clean re-move, and ab589ca09 closes Copilot's four points. Two minors below; neither blocks.

What

  • Same change I approved at 995daaf47: v2 Flow ships as skills/uipath-maestro-flow, v1 moves to classic/, and Studio Web pins it through .canonical.
  • The rebase picks up #3610, #3616–#3620, #3626 and #3642 in the promoted tree. #3625's commits drop out.
  • ab589ca09 adds flavor blocks to agents inline-in-flow.md, the HITL SKILL.md and platform triggers.md. It also makes dead cross-generation anchors fatal.

Checked since my approval

  • ✅ classic/skills/uipath-maestro-flow is byte-identical to main's v1 tree at the base 72eb7e37d.
  • ✅ skills/uipath-maestro-flow equals the tree I approved plus exactly the merged preview fixes. The only extra difference is the description (inline).
  • ✅ Outside the moved trees, 995daaf47 → head differs only by ab589ca09.
  • ✅ No main commit after the base touches the moved paths. #3165 edits two agents files this PR also flavors, but the edited lines don't overlap and GitHub reports the PR mergeable.
  • ✅ The SDK shapes the new blocks cite exist: filters: [{ field, <op>: value }] and #filter-operators in event-trigger.md, hitl(...) in hitl.md, and the inlineAgent sidecar in inline-agent.md.
  • ✅ CI: 70 pass, 2 skipped.
  • ❓ Not re-verified by me: the Studio Web composed tree is still byte-identical to main. I read the new overrides, which restore the original text or leave the block empty, but I did not run the composer.

tl;dr

The rebase is faithful and the Copilot follow-ups are sound. Two small fixes to consider: the description drops #3618's "list IxP models" wording, and the new HITL stop gate disagrees with the surface row above it about JSON-only .flow.

…n the Flow surface

Review follow-ups on #3624:
- Description: "IXP document extraction (add or list IXP models)"
  restores the listing route #3618 added (routing_listing prompts ask to
  list, not author; uipath-ixp sends listing here). 936/1024 chars.
- uipath-human-in-the-loop: the stop gate now keys on the Flow surface
  (a `.flow.ts`, a `.flow`, or a new flow), matching the surface row,
  and hands the request to uipath-maestro-flow, which decompiles an
  existing `.flow` first. Steps 2-6 are Case, Low-Code Agent and Maestro
  only in the default package; Studio Web's override is unchanged.

Studio Web composed tree still byte-identical to the merge base.

main promoted the builder-SDK Flow skill (#3624) and pinned the old one for
Studio Web as classic. Resolution:

- skills/uipath-maestro-flow/SKILL.md: take main's; rule 9 no longer exists
- the hand-written-JSON guidance (node configure, debug note) follows its
  file into classic/skills/.../plugins/data-fabric/impl.md, which Studio
  Web still ships
- references/data-fabric.md (new SDK skill) gains "An entity the solution
  authors itself": take folderKey (the 99999999-... placeholder) from
  `df entities get --local` and resourceKey from the Source: Local row of
  `solution resources list --kind Entity`, not the tenant; its "omit both"
  fallback is exactly the Entity-does-not-exist failure for a local entity.
  Also the INLINE_ENTITY_UNBOUND fix for a .flow.ts, and the debug note
- local-entities.md: both authoring paths; the SDK paragraph sits in a
  flavor block that the studioweb flavor overrides to nothing

The #2387 rebase left four unresolved conflict blocks in

sides disagree, keep the one SKILL.md already states: validate after
refresh, never update-metadata. Where they do not overlap, keep both. Add

The #3792 cherry-pick (#3838) covers every other skill, but these four
maestro-flow references were rewritten on main by #3624 and so fall
outside it. Use the same <AUTHORITY_URL> login placeholder and a
cloud.uipath.com example host.
