Region Fields Validation broke my checkout

I ran into an issue that the checkout no long functioned properly when Region Fields Validation was set to 'yes'.
Payments were done, but no order was created in Magento (2.4.7-p2). When I disabled the Region Fields Validation, all seemed to work again. Also didn't receive mail notifications.

having the same issue and had to disable it on the backend so the order was accespted. Otherwise, an exception occurs.
