TL;DR: Enable DashPay profile creation and updates with hashed ECDSA identity keys, including identities with only some private keys available.

User story

As a wallet user, I want to save my DashPay profile using an eligible identity key available in my wallet.

Scenario

A wallet-linked identity has an unavailable HIGH-security HASH160 authentication key at a lower ID and an available ECDSA authentication key at a higher ID. Profile creation and replacement skip the unavailable key and use the available key. Fully provisioned HASH160-only identities are supported too.

Detailed discussion

Dependencies and scope

What changed

  • Accept active AUTHENTICATION keys of type ECDSA_SECP256K1 or ECDSA_HASH160 at HIGH/CRITICAL security, reusing QualifiedIdentity as the signer.
  • Upstream profile creation and replacement select the first eligible key in key-ID order reported available by Signer::can_sign_with and pass that exact key to the document writer. Actual signing failures propagate without cross-key retries.
  • Cover accepted/rejected key policies and add ignored E2E cases for HASH160-only and partially imported mixed-key identities, exercising both create and replace.
  • Adapt the updated API: preserve cached shielded balances when checked totals fail, pass the current Platform version to token reward calculations, and include terminal FAILED withdrawals in history and structured responses.
  • Update profile documentation, user story, changelog, and withdrawal status schema descriptions.

Validation

  • cargo test --lib --all-features profile --locked: 43 passed.
  • Upstream profile tests at the pinned revision: 12 passed. Restoring the old selector in an isolated checkout caused the missing-key and mixed-key regression tests to fail; restoring the fixed selector made them pass.
  • cargo fmt --all and git diff --check: passed.
  • cargo clippy --all-features --lib --bins --test backend-e2e --locked -- -D warnings: passed, including compilation of profile_create_and_replace_skips_unavailable_hash160_key.
  • Live E2E was not run because no funded E2E_WALLET_MNEMONIC is configured.
  • Earlier validation of the shielded-balance adaptation ran 27 event-bridge tests successfully; these were not rerun for the signer follow-up.

Review limitations

  • Signer availability reflects stored key placements; an actual vault access or signing error still fails the operation.
  • The earlier dependency review reported existing Rustls and h2 advisories in unchanged registry versions. This follow-up did not repeat that audit or independently audit every upstream consensus change.

Final validation — Phase 2 only (queue backlog)

The HASH160 policy expansion introduces a profile-saving regression for mixed-key identities: an unavailable HASH160 key can now take precedence over a usable raw ECDSA key. The duplicate signer findings are consolidated below; the withdrawal-label suggestion is excluded because the same completion-only terminology already covered expired withdrawals before this PR.

  • Triage: critical by gpt-6-astra (effort low) — The diff changes cryptographic key handling and profile signing in src/wallet_backend/dashpay.rs, including acceptance of ECDSA_HASH160 authentication keys and reuse of identity private-key signing material.

In `src/wallet_backend/dashpay.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] src/wallet_backend/dashpay.rs:906-910: Skip unavailable keys when selecting the profile signing key
Adding HASH160 to this policy and the pinned upstream selector can break profile creation and updates that previously worked. For an identity with an active HIGH/CRITICAL HASH160 authentication key at a lower ID and a usable raw ECDSA authentication key at a higher ID, the old selector skipped HASH160 and selected the usable key. The new upstream `profile_signing_key` calls `get_first_public_key_matching`, which iterates the identity's BTreeMap in key-ID order without checking private-key availability. Both external-signer profile methods pass that selected key to `put_document`; `QualifiedIdentity::sign` resolves that exact key and fails when its private material is unavailable, rather than trying the higher-ID key. The local preflight only checks public-key eligibility and cannot prevent this. Although the PR description acknowledges the limitation, this particular mixed-key case is a regression introduced by the expanded selector. Make selection availability-aware in the actual upstream publication path, or provide an API that accepts the exact usable key; changing only this preflight is insufficient. Add a regression test covering both create and update with an unavailable lower-ID HASH160 key and an available higher-ID raw ECDSA key.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)

These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.

  • Failed withdrawals are still labeled as completed in the history view — Out of scope as a pre-existing terminology issue. At base 4940fd5, RecentlyCompletedWithdrawals already queried both COMPLETE and EXPIRED while displaying the same completion-only heading and empty-state message. This PR adds another terminal status and correctly renders its per-row status as failed; it does not introduce the broader mismatch between terminal-history contents and completion-only labels. Renaming that existing history section is adjacent cleanup rather than a required correction to HASH160 support or failed-status handling.
    • Follow-up: Consider creating a separate issue or author/maintainer-requested PR for this.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

The profile implementation correctly delegates signer-aware key selection to the pinned upstream API, and the prior unavailable-key blocker is fixed. The new failed-withdrawal behavior is not fully reflected in the GUI/backend labels or MCP tool description, and identities with no locally signable eligible key still receive a generic write failure. No blocking issues were found.

🟡 3 suggestion(s)

3 finding(s) not shown inline (the lines are not part of this PR's diff)

🟡 Suggestion: Do not label failed withdrawals as completed
src/backend_task/platform_info.rs:826-850

The withdrawal history query now includes COMPLETE, EXPIRED, and FAILED statuses, but both the empty-state text and the rendered heading still say "recently completed withdrawals." A result containing only failed withdrawals is therefore presented as a successful completion history, even though individual rows show "failed." Use a neutral label such as "Recent Withdrawal History" and update the corresponding GUI and CLI labels as well.

source: gpt-6-astra (phase2-reviewer: rust-quality)

🟡 Suggestion: Keep the MCP withdrawal description aligned with returned statuses
src/mcp/tools/platform.rs:110-114

The completed withdrawal query now returns failed withdrawals as well as complete and expired ones, and the structured entry documentation already lists "failed." However, the tool description still tells MCP clients that completed results contain only complete or expired statuses. Update the description so clients can correctly interpret the response.

"Query withdrawal documents from Platform. \
             Pass status=\"queued\" (default) for in-queue withdrawals \
(queued, pooled, or broadcasted) or status=\"completed\" for \
finished ones (complete, expired, or failed). \
Use limit and start_after for pagination."

source: gpt-6-astra (phase2-reviewer: rust-quality)

🟡 Suggestion: Preserve the specific error for identities without a locally signable profile key
src/wallet_backend/dashpay.rs:932-940

ensure_profile_signing_key verifies that the managed identity has an eligible on-chain key, but it does not check whether the supplied QualifiedIdentity signer has any eligible key placement. When an identity has an eligible public key but none of its private keys are locally available, the upstream signer-aware selector fails before signing and this path maps the result to generic ProfileWriteFailed rather than ProfileSigningKeyUnsupported. Check the supplied signer with the same eligibility policy before dispatching the profile write so the user receives the specific actionable error. This should remain a placement check; vault resolution failures can still be handled by the actual signing path.

Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)

These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.

  • Vault-dead first key still blocks a live second key (no signing retry) — A stale vault placeholder can still make can_sign_with report a key as available even when vault resolution fails, and the profile operation does not retry a later eligible key after that signing failure. This is a concrete edge case, but the PR explicitly limits availability to stored placements and documents that actual signing failures are not retried; fixing it requires a vault-aware upstream selection or retry design.
    • Follow-up: Track separately as an upstream/profile signer availability issue.

Check eligible managed-identity keys against the supplied signer's placements
before publishing, preserving the actionable error when none is available.
Cover unavailable, ineligible, and mixed-key placements in profile tests.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 2 only (queue backlog)

Independently reviewed the complete PR diff at 55517cb and the pinned upstream profile-signing implementation; all four prior findings are fixed, with no additional actionable in-scope issues identified. Validation passed: 44 profile tests, 27 event-bridge tests, five platform-info tests, backend E2E compilation, formatting, and diff whitespace checks. Live funded E2E tests were not run.
