Description
Summary
Discover now loads its Security and Observability (logs and traces) profiles in Classic navigation when the queried data would benefit from them, instead of only in the Security or Observability solution views. Detection looks at the data view ID or resolved indices, or the ES|QL index pattern. For Security, all matched indices must be known Security indices, otherwise Discover shows the default experience. Users can opt out with the Contextual profiles in Classic navigation advanced setting (discover:enableSolutionProfilesInClassic, on by default). The setting is not shown in serverless.
Why this needs docs: The Security Discover page says the experience activates only from the Security solution view, which is no longer true, and the new advanced setting is a new configurable behavior.

Explore Security data in Discover > Access the Security Discover experience
- What the docs say: (Elastic Stack: Generally available) The Security experience activates when you open Discover from the Elastic Security solution view.
- What to add: Add that in Classic navigation, the Security experience also activates when you query Security data, such as alerts and endpoint events, through a Security data view or an ES|QL query that targets only known Security indices, and that mixed data sources show the default experience. Mention the opt-out setting. Verify which exact index patterns to list against the PR source before documenting them. Stack only, from 9.6.0 (not available in serverless).
Kibana advanced settings > Discover
- What the docs say: Lists Discover advanced settings; no entry for contextual profiles in Classic navigation.
- What to add: Add the Contextual profiles in Classic navigation setting (discover:enableSolutionProfilesInClassic, default on, requires a page reload) through the Kibana advanced settings YAML source, following the docs-kibana-settings workflow. Description: Discover adapts to Observability and Security data in Classic navigation by loading profiles with tailored columns, cell renderers, and document views. Turn it off to always use the default experience. Stack only, from 9.6.0 (not available in serverless).
