Asking Dependabot to Rebase via MCP leads to malformed text in comment #2714

Describe the bug
add_issue_comment mangles @mentions in comment bodies by inserting Unicode middle dot characters (·) between letters. This causes bot commands (e.g. Dependabot's @dependabot rebase) to silently fail because the mention is unrecognized.

Steps to reproduce the behavior
- In Claude Code, ask Claude to post
@dependabot rebaseas a comment on a GitHub PR via theadd_issue_commentMCP tool. - Observe the resulting comment body on GitHub.
Expected behavior
Comment body: @dependabot rebase
Actual behavior
Comment body: ·@·d·ependabot r·ebase
Additional context
The issue reproduces consistently on repeated calls with the same input. The mangled text prevents Dependabot from recognizing the command.

Hi, I’d like to help investigate this.
Before attempting a fix, I’ll try to reproduce the issue by calling
add_issue_commentdirectly with the body@dependabot rebase, without going through Claude Code. If the comment body is still mangled, I’ll look for where the transformation happens in github-mcp-server and add a regression test. If it only reproduces through Claude Code, this may be happening before the MCP server receives the input.Does that sound like a useful first step?
