Hi there👋. My name is Jianshu (canonically pronounced as Jyen-shoo) Zhao, a computational microbiologist (with software engineering expertise) at University of California, San Diego. My primary research interest is to apply probabilistic data structures (e.g., SimHash/MinHash and UltraLogLog) and machine learning algorithms to solve problems in microbiome, microbial genomics, genomics and metagenomics. I am also interested in high performance computing for large-scale biological problems. I am a Rustacean 🦀. I am the main developer of several software packages such as DartUniFrac, GSearch, annembed, TurboANI (a 50 times faster fastANI alternative), aeon (next generation genome similarity search and classification platform), FastCover, BinDash 2, lash and dotANI. I am also maintaining several Rust libraries, including rust-diskann, DartMinHash-rs, UltraLogLog, ExaLogLog, SuperBit, fpcoa and streaming_algorithms. More information about me here. I am also interested in multi-omics data analysis (e.g., metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics and metabolomics) for environmental microbiology & microbial ecology. I am a fan of Rust. Go Ferris!
