…turns withImplementation() waited only for a JSPromise cell. A callback that returned another object with a then() method was treated as synchronous: then() was never called, the previous implementation came back at once, and nothing was returned to await. A lazy value such as a supertest request was never sent, and a value that was already running (bluebird, Q, execa) ran against the previous implementation. An object that is not a promise is now adopted with JSPromise::resolvedPromise. When the new promise is not fulfilled at once, the object has a callable then: withImplementation() waits for that promise and returns it. A native promise or a Promise subclass is waited on as before. The wait is attached with performPromiseThenWithContext. The old code made a promise capability that nothing read and did not check its exception scope, so the second promise-returning call in a process failed JSC's exception check validation. The types accept a callback that returns any object with a then() method.

Nothing blocking. The comments below are optional suggestions. There is no need to push a fix for them before merging.
Beyond the inline findings, I also checked two things in src/jsc/bindings/JSMockFunction.cpp: the raw lastImpl/lastTail/lastFallback JSValues now held across JSPromise::resolvedPromise (which can run a user then getter) stay live because they are C-stack locals of a host function and are conservatively scanned, and resolvedPromise does not store them anywhere; and the new direct performPromiseThenWithContext call needs no exception check since it is on the repo's nothrow.txt list, so the dropped RETURN_IF_EXCEPTION after the old call(...) is not a regression.
Extended reasoning...
The change adopts non-promise thenables returned from a withImplementation callback via JSPromise::resolvedPromise, replaces the capability-based then attach with performPromiseThenWithContext, and updates the .d.ts, docs, and tests; it touches no security-sensitive surface. Inline findings already cover the swallowed then-getter throw and the shared fulfill/reject cleanup handler; the GC-safety and exception-check concerns from the conventions were examined and ruled out as noted.
…-implementation-thenable
A callback can return an object whose then getter throws, for example a revoked Proxy. The promise that adopted it was then rejected at once, and withImplementation() waited on it: the previous implementation came back one microtask later, and the error reached only a caller that awaited the result. withImplementation() now puts the previous implementation back at once and throws that error. Only a pending promise is waited on. The cases with no then() method are separate test.each rows.

I re-reviewed the two new commits and found no bugs; they address the earlier inline points (a throwing then getter is now rethrown synchronously after the restore, and the non-thenable cases use test.each). A human look is still worthwhile because packages/bun-types/test.d.ts is a CODEOWNER-owned path and the microtask-vs-synchronous then() timing is a deliberate divergence from Jest that a maintainer should sign off on.
What was reviewed:
jsMockFunctionWithImplementation:resolvedPromiseis followed byRETURN_IF_EXCEPTION; after the early-return promise branch only null/Fulfilled/Rejected remain, so the rejected-rethrow check is exhaustive and the dropped fulfilled promise is unobserved.performPromiseThenWithContextreplacement: same signature as ~40 other in-tree callers;result()with no args matches existing usage; adopted Pending promise is both waited on and returned.- Types: overload order resolves
async/PromiseLike/minimal thenable toPromise<void>andvoid/{ then: 42 }tovoid, matched by the new fixture checks. - Tests:
expectResolves/expectRejectshelpers exist and assert thePromiseinstance; the thenable rejection path restores the implementation and surfaces the reason.
Extended reasoning...
The change touches the C++ JSC binding for mockFn.withImplementation (src/jsc/bindings/JSMockFunction.cpp), the bun:test .d.ts overloads, docs, a types fixture, and the mock-fn test file. It touches no security-sensitive surface (no auth, injection, or data exposure); the user-code entry point (reading then via resolvedPromise) is exception-checked and the mock state is restored before the synchronous rethrow. The earlier inline findings from the prior run are addressed by the new commits, and no new issues were found. Approval is withheld because packages/bun-types/test.d.ts falls under a CODEOWNERS entry and because the then()-timing semantics differ from Jest/Vitest, which is a product decision for a maintainer.
Problem
mockFn.withImplementation(impl, callback)ignores a thenable thatcallbackreturns. It never callsthen(), restores the previous implementation at once, and returnsundefined. A returned supertest request is never sent. Jest 30.5.2 and Vitest 5.0.5 wait.jsMockFunctionWithImplementation(src/jsc/bindings/JSMockFunction.cpp:1404) waits only for aJSPromisecell.Fix

thengetter that throws gave a rejected promise thatwithImplementation()waited on. The restore came one microtask later, and a caller that did not await never saw the error. Now the previous implementation comes back at once andwithImplementation()throws the error. The promise that held it is marked as handled, so it is not reported a second time. The test usestry/catch, becauseexpect().toThrow()hides such a report.then()method aretest.eachrows.Question for a maintainer
