Marine Quantitative Ecologist & Fisheries Scientist

I am a quantitative marine ecologist and fisheries scientist working at the intersection of ecological modelling, marine data science and decision science. I develop statistical and computational approaches for pelagic fish and marine ecosystems, integrating stock assessment, spatio-temporal modelling, population and community dynamics, life-history processes, environmental variability and multidimensional indicators. My research focuses on understanding population responses to natural and anthropogenic pressures, quantifying uncertainty, and translating ecological information into management through stock assessment, management strategy evaluation (MSE), ecosystem-based fisheries science and reproducible analytical workflows. I am particularly interested in highly variable marine systems and in developing transferable methods that connect ecological theory, large and heterogeneous marine datasets, and operational fisheries management.

How this profile is automated

A scheduled GitHub Actions workflow maintains the profile each week and can also be executed manually:

  1. Research outputs: ORCID provides the canonical public scholarly record. Every public work is retained, classified by output type and rendered in the profile; DOI records are enriched through Crossref when available.
  2. Research metrics: OpenAlex supplies citation count, h-index and i10-index. Identity is resolved first by ORCID; if OpenAlex has not yet attached the ORCID to its author entity, the workflow falls back to authorship on exact DOI works already registered in ORCID, never to a global name-only search. Google Scholar is kept as a navigation link rather than an automated data source.
  3. Repository inventory: the GitHub API inventories original repositories owned by qselmer; forks are excluded. When PROFILE_REPO_TOKEN is configured, private originals are also included and marked with 🔒 while sensitive private metadata is suppressed.
  4. Repository taxonomy: an explicit canonical type-* topic is authoritative. Legacy overrides and conservative name inference remain only as temporary cleanup aids; ambiguous repositories are sent to Other / legacy.
  5. Repository summary cards: language composition and repository-type counts use only active original public repositories; private and archived repositories are excluded from the summary metrics.
  6. Synchronization: the canonical publication, metric and repository-catalog JSON files can be reused by my academic website, reducing duplicated manual updates between GitHub and the website.
