Description

This PR adds loongarch64 shell payloads and adds the required configs to get them to work with fetch payloads to make them easier to test.

Breaking Changes

I really hope this does not break anything.

Reviewer Notes

loongarch64 hardware is available in the renegade lab, ask Brendan.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds Linux LoongArch64 standalone and staged TCP shell payloads, FTP/HTTP/HTTPS/TFTP command adapters, and fileless loader support. Adds tests for payload generation, adapter behavior, and cache sizes, along with documentation for the adapters and standalone shells.

Changes

Linux LoongArch64 payloads

Layer / File(s) Summary
Standalone TCP shell payloads
modules/payloads/singles/linux/loongarch64/*, documentation/modules/payloads/singles/linux/loongarch64/*, spec/modules/payloads/singles/linux/loongarch64/*
Adds bind- and reverse-TCP shell payloads. The reverse payload validates IPv4 input and encodes the address and port; tests cover shellcode generation and configuration changes.
Staged TCP shell payloads
modules/payloads/stagers/linux/loongarch64/*, modules/payloads/stages/linux/loongarch64/shell.rb, spec/modules/payloads_spec.rb
Adds bind- and reverse-TCP stagers that receive a four-byte stage length and stage, map the stage, and transfer execution. Adds a shell stage that redirects socket I/O and executes the configured shell. Cache-size specs cover the staged and standalone payloads.
Fetch adapters and fileless loading
lib/msf/core/payload/adapter/fetch/fileless.rb, modules/payloads/adapters/cmd/linux/*/loongarch64.rb, spec/modules/payloads/adapters/cmd/linux/http/loongarch64_spec.rb, spec/lib/msf/core/payload/adapter/fetch/fileless_spec.rb, documentation/modules/payloads/adapters/cmd/linux/*/loongarch64.md, spec/modules/payloads_spec.rb
Adds LoongArch64 command adapters for FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, and TFTP. Adds fileless loader and jump instructions, with tests for loader output, HTTP adapter behavior, and adapter cache status. Adds adapter documentation.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 414b4

Hostname-based callback configuration fails for the standalone reverse shell, though a numeric IPv4 address works. The new documentation also needs completed examples. Both are bounded issues to address before merge or explicitly accept.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 414b4

The change follows an existing execution model for another CPU architecture. No introduced security-control bypass was established, but native execution behavior and deployment exposure remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The directly exposed asset is the LoongArch64 process executing the payload. The standalone bind shell listens on all IPv4 interfaces and connects an accepted socket to shell standard I/O; the reverse shell uses the configured IPv4 destination. Host-level consequences depend on the process's effective privileges. Tenant, service, and environment-wide exposure cannot be established from the supplied deployment context.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Stage framing and ELF-header validation control completeness and executable format, not source authenticity. The new paths inherit the framework's existing assumption that the selected delivery peer is trusted. Inspection did not establish a PR-introduced bypass of an existing peer-authentication control.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — HTTP resource registration and cleanup remain centralized in the existing fetch mixin, while architecture-specific fileless instructions leave the surrounding process lifecycle unchanged. This limits new control drift, without proving cleanup behavior under every interruption or runtime race.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Use network isolation or access restrictions around bind and staging endpoints. Do not treat a valid ELF header or successful length framing as authentication of delivered code.

Add completed scenarios to the six new LoongArch64 payload documents.

The documentation instructions require human-filled scenarios with real console output. Replace the placeholders in the four adapter documents with representative fetch commands and shell results. Also add payload and shell results to the standalone bind and reverse shell documents.

This is a required documentation issue, not an optional refactor.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Resolve hostname-valued LHOST before checking IPv4 format.

When LHOST is an IPv4-resolving hostname, this guard rejects it before address resolution. The reverse handler accepts hostnames, and option normalization preserves hostname strings. Generation therefore fails for an accepted option value. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Resolve an IPv4 address first. Keep the IPv6 rejection and add a hostname regression example. Rex::Socket.getaddress supports IPv4-only resolution. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
