Select/Show spack version on packages.spack.io

[nboelte]

We want to link to the list of packages in the Spack version 0.21.0 in our user documentation. Is there a version of packages.spack.io that shows the packages from the 0.21.0 version?

On my fork, I've made tags that cover the most recent spack releases. It would be nice if these could be added at least.

Additionally, if a spack maintainer sees this, I'd be interested in helping to maintain this project. Shoot me an email at gavinnjohn@gmail.com

Now that the path of all the spack package.py in the develop branch of spack/spack has changed, packages.spack.io has become almost useless without this feature.

@nboelte why has the move of packages to a different path changed this functionality for you?

You can see all of the known versions for a package by running,

spack versions --safe <pkg>

Or by looking at the package information with,

spack info <pkg>

From the perspective of https://repology.org/: it would be really nice not to add a dependency on spack in order to get this information. This repository, packages.spack.io, is used to fetch that information. However, this means it can't track historical versions of spack.

Hi! I don't think packages.spack.io has such a command line interface

[tgamblin]

Yep it doesn't show all the info in spack info. But it could certainly be improved to do so.

My previous workflow to figure out which versions are available is to click on the package.py link on packages.spack.io and then change the branch to whatever versions of spack we are using in production and scroll down to the version() lines. But i think this is basically impossible now starting on packages.spack.io, but maybe it will start working again next year when we are no longer on 0.21 and 0.23 :-)
