adding a square with just filter, makes the item move slow or behind a lot. I think this needs to be optimized somehow. I'm running a powerful Intel 270k Plus on a 6950XT so i don't expect a square with a filter to lag behind the mouse.
#1265 makes Craquelure, Mosaic Tiles and Stained Glass redraw about 25–30% faster with identical pixels. Dragging with filters may still feel slow, so I'm leaving this open.
This should be fixed by #1384 in the next release: during a drag, an object with a drop shadow, glow or filter now reuses its rasters instead of running the effects again on every frame. Please reopen if it still lags.
The latency has improved greatly, I tried doing a few more objects to see how it handles them, when 2 or more objects are moved around it still struggles a lot. But the efficiency has improved quite a bit. Also on the original Illustrator there is this feature that when you hold for a few seconds on an object before dragging it, it shows a ghost image of what you're holding, that allows for precise alignment of what you're grabbing, I don't recall if it also did that with textured items, but it's a good feature to have in mind.

I've also noticed that when zoomed in it lags A LOT more than when zoomed out. That's something to notice.
